PNG to Indonesia. 23rd July.

We left Port Moresby PNG and arrived in Saumlaki, Indonesia mid morning on the 23rd July after just over 1,000 miles and 7 days at sea? We had a good trip with no problems, weather was good with consistant winds meaning we averaged 6 knots the whole way, a good average.

Only two fish caught though, a Spanish Mackeral and small tuna, two got away, a sailfish ( fortunately as we would never have landed it) and another that we were pulling in but it was lost after another bigger fish took a free dinner)

Leaving PNG.

Time to leave PNG and head for Indonesia, looking foward to this part of the trip as its a 3 montn trip through Indonesia from east to west. We are joining a sailing rally – Sail Indonesia – as they plan a route and lay on functions for you, also for security reasons as we travel through the islands. Don’t know how many other yachts will be joining us or wether we have to stay with them, time we tell. The weather forecast is good so its time to go, roughly a 1,000 miles so maybe 8-10 days at most, may get some choppy weather through the Torres Straits as its known to be unpredictable at times.

I believe PNG has a lot more to offer than we saw staying in and around the yacht club, big dive sites down in Milne Bay, the Highland areas with the local tribes and the many, many islands including New Britain and New Ireland. A country definately worth exploring in the future.
